August 27, 2025 The Chamber of Commerce, Services and Tourism of Mexico City (Canaco CDMX) warned about the negative impact that the proliferation of warehouses and shopping plazas for Asian products, as well as the growth of street vending, have on established commerce in the Historic Center and other boroughs. According to an analysis by the organization, more than 600 warehouses and shopping plazas dedicated to selling products of Asian origin have been detected, which has caused a drop of up to 60% in the sales of formal commerce.
Vicente Gutiérrez Camposeco, president of Canaco CDMX, pointed out that there are more than 3,500 Asian establishments in the capital, which represents a risk to the economy, security, and civil protection. Canaco has requested that the capital's government review land use, strengthen customs enforcement, and design commercial restriction zones to protect local commerce.
